TEXT John 14.15-17, 25-26 ESV
15 “If you love me, you will keep my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever,17 even the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees him nor knows him. You know him, for he dwells with you and will be in you.
25 “These things I have spoken to you while I am still with you. 26 But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you.
· WHO IS THE HOLY SPIRIT?
He is a “Person.” The Holy Spirit has divine attributes:
o Intellect, 1 Corinthians 2.11
o Feelings, Ephesians 4.30
o Will, 1 Corinthians 12.11
He is God. The Holy Spirit has divine attributes:
o Eternal, Hebrews 9.14
o All-knowing, John 14.26
o All-powerful, Luke 1.35,37
o Present everywhere, Psalm 139.7–10
· WHAT DOES THE HOLY SPIRIT DO?
He speaks (Acts 13.2); He testifies (John 15.26); He teaches (John 14.26); He convicts (John 16.8–11); He intercedes (Romans 8.26,27); He guides and directs (John 16.13; Acts 16.6,7); He reveals God’s Word (2 Peter 1.21); He can be tested (Acts 5.9); He can be lied to (Acts 5.3); He can be grieved (Isaiah 63.10); He can be resisted (Acts 7.51); He can be insulted (Matthew 12.31,32; Hebrews 10.29)
· HOW CAN WE KEEP IN STEP WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT?
o The Holy Spirit creates unity among us without producing uniformity.
o The Holy Spirit taps our potential.
o The Spirit leads us in two dimensions. deeper into God and out into the world.
o The Holy Spirit waits until we invite and receive Him.
