[TAKING A STAND WHEN IT MATTERS MOST]    Daniel 3.16-18        07.15.2018

TEXT Daniel 3.16-18 ESV 16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter.17 If this be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of your hand, O king. 18 But if not, be it known to you, O king, that we will not serve your gods or worship the golden image that you have set up.”

  • WHEN TO STAND APART

Daniel 1.17-20 ESV 17 As for these four youths, God gave them learning and skill in all literature and wisdom, and Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams. 18 At the end of the time, when the king had commanded that they should be brought in, the chief of the eunuchs brought them in before Nebuchadnezzar. 19 And the king spoke with them, and among all of them none was found like Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. Therefore they stood before the king. 20 And in every matter of wisdom and understanding about which the king inquired of them, he found them ten times better than all the magicians and enchanters that were in all his kingdom.

What made the young Hebrew men stand apart?

  • Sharp, healthy gifted
  • Work & Study ethic
  • Spiritual commitment

Standing apart gives credibility to standing up.

  • WHY TO STAND UP

Daniel 3.16-18 ESV

  • Worship/sacrifice
  • Putting Christ 1st
  • Not even the smell of fire was on them

Standing up for Jesus has to do with our inner character, not an outer display.

  • WHO TO STAND WITH

Hebrews 11.33-38 ESV 33 who through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, 34 quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, were made strong out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight. 35 Women received back their dead by resurrection. Some were tortured, refusing to accept release, so that they might rise again to a better life. 36 Others suffered mocking and flogging, and even chains and imprisonment. 37 They were stoned, they were sawn in two, they were killed with the sword. They went about in skins of sheep and goats, destitute, afflicted, mistreated— 38 of whom the world was not worthy—wandering about in deserts and mountains, and in dens and caves of the earth.
