Connections: Called to Invest

[CALLED TO INVEST] Matthew 6.19-24               01.27.2019

TEXT Matthew 6.19-24 ESV  19 “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, 20 but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. 22 “The eye is the lamp of the body. So, if your eye is healthy, your whole body will be full of light, 23 but if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light in you is darkness, how great is the darkness! 24 “No one can serve two masters, for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and money.

As a thriving community of faith, we are called to:

  1. Inspire
  2. Invest
  3. Interact
  4. Influence

Am I invested in the long-term health and effectiveness of this church (the local expression of the Body of Christ)?

Am I investing my Time? Talent? Treasure?

  • TIME: Where did all of our time go?
Matthew 6.3333 But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
  • TALENT: You are uniquely gifted with natural and spiritual abilities designed to meet specific needs within your local Body of Christ.
1 Corinthians 12.2727 Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.
James 1.2222 But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.
James 2.2626 For as the body apart from the spirit is dead, so also faith apart from works is dead.
James 4.1717 So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.
  • TREASURE: “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Which comes first?
    Matthew 6.19-21
2 Corinthians 9.6-15The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work. As it is written, “He has distributed freely, he has given to the poor; his righteousness endures forever.”
