John 1.14 ESV
14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
John was a person, a pupil, a pastor, a prophet, and a prisoner (re: John Phillips).
Jesus’ nickname for James and brother John as Sons of Thunderseems to refer to their personalities, not necessarily their father, Mark 3.1717 James the son of Zebedee and John the brother of James (to whom he gave the name Boanerges, that is, Sons of Thunder).
Three areas of balance John achieved (re: John MacArthur):
- Between love and truth
- Between ambition and humility
- Between suffering and glory

John 13.23 ESV
23 One of his disciples, whom Jesus loved, was reclining at table at Jesus’ side…
John 15.12-13 ESV
12 “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends.
