DEPLETED BUT NOT DEFEATED
SERIES – Depleted: Refilling Your Soul When You’re Running on Fumes
In Jesus, we may be Depleted, but we are not Defeated!
TEXT 2 Corinthians 12.9-10 ESV
9 But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 10 For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
· IN JESUS, I AM POWER-FILLED
Paul understood God’s power, even though he was tormented by a “thorn in the flesh.”
2 Corinthians 13 ESV
4 For he was crucified in weakness, but lives by the power of God. For we also are weak in him, but in dealing with you we will live with him by the power of God.
· IN JESUS, I AM CONTENT
David’s dire circumstances: Psalm 69 ESV
1 Save me, O God! For the waters have come up to my neck. 2 I sink in deep mire, where there is no foothold; I have come into deep waters, and the flood sweeps over me.
David’s hope-filled refrain, v 30-33:
30 I will praise the name of God with a song; I will magnify him with thanksgiving. 31 This will please the Lord more than an ox or a bull with horns and hoofs. 32 When the humble see it they will be glad; you who seek God, let your hearts revive. 33 For the Lord hears the needy and does not despise his own people who are prisoners.
· IN JESUS, I AM HUMBLE & STRONG
Even Old Testament patriarchs and prophets dealt with depression and discouragement.
Elijah: 1 Kings 19.2-4 ESV
4 But he himself went a day’s journey into the wilderness and came and sat down under a broom tree. And he asked that he might die, saying, “It is enough; now, O Lord, take away my life, for I am no better than my fathers.”
Moses: Numbers 11.14-15 ESV
14 I am not able to carry all this people alone; the burden is too heavy for me. 15 If you will treat me like this, kill me at once, if I find favor in your sight, that I may not see my wretchedness.”
Here is our prayer: “that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord” Acts 3.20 ES
