TEXT Matthew 28.18-20 NLT

18 Jesus came and told his disciples, “I have been given all authority in heaven and on earth. 19 Therefore, go and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. 20 Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

  • ALL AUTHORITY

Colossians 1.18 NLT “Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body. He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead. So he is first in everything.”

“Christ does not intend that evangelism and missionary witness result only in conversion decisions. Spiritual energies must not be concentrated in merely enlarging church membership, but in making disciples who separate themselves from the world, observe the commands of Christ, and follow him with all their heart, mind and will.” – Don Stamps

  • ALL NATIONS

The Great Commission contains one primary, central command, the imperative make disciples, with three subordinate participles, go, baptizing, and teaching. – Michael J. Wilkins

Disciple does not refer only to the committed Christians. Consider that all Christians are disciples, only some are obedient and some are not. Disciple-making is incomplete until it leads to living out Jesus’ commandments.

  • ALL THE COMMANDS

All the commands – an inside-out righteousness. Teaching is not simply dispensing knowledge, but teaching them to obey, conform their lives to the teaching of Christ.

Romans 8.29; 2 Corinthians 3.18

  • AL[L]WAYS

Matthew begins with Immanuel, God with us, and ends with I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”

The promised Holy Spirit is the way Jesus is with us now. Immanuel!
